Ponza Island

Feel the sea breeze, admire the unspoiled nature, experience the unique experience of Ponza

Ponza Island is much more than just a natural paradise. Its history, its traditions and its culture make it a unique and fascinating island, which in its only seven kilometers in length encloses together a series of many different beauties.
The old Bourbon harbor built in the 1700s to a design by architect Winspeare overlooked as in an amphitheater by the characteristic colorful houses. The lush nature, with brooms, prickly pears and all the island vegetation with its intense scents to be enjoyed in walks along the island’s paths. The tunnels dug by the ancient Romans and the ancient cisterns. And then the sea with its many shades of beautiful colors, all to be discovered in the countless coves that follow one after the other along the coasts of Ponza as well as Zannone and the nearby island of Palmarola, not by chance considered

“one of the most beautiful landmasses from the sea on our planet “ (Folco Quilici).

THE BEACHES.

A paradise in the Mediterranean to be experienced on foot

Known for its crystal-clear waters and picturesque coves, Ponza Island is the ideal place for a vacation of relaxation and natural beauty.

Among the island’s main attractions to be reached on foot are Cala Feola, with its natural pools, on the west side of the island and Frontone beach on the east side of the island that can also be reached by sea connections from Ponza harbor or the small port of Santa Maria.

But the sea is not the only attraction; guests can take guided walks among the island’s paths or visit the vineyards, from whose grapes fine wines are produced, with the possibility also of organizing visits and tastings at one of the island’s wineries.

THE ITINERARY FOR DISCOVERING PONZA

A journey through history and culture

Ponza’s history dates back to ancient times and, like many other islands in the Mediterranean, it is rich in testimonies left over the centuries, starting with those of the ancient Romans, to whom we owe, among other things, the Chiaia di Luna tunnel dug to connect the two opposite sides of the island’s coastline, one exposed to winds from the eastern quadrant and the other to winds coming from the west.

Starting from Palazzetto Ponza, it is possible to visit numerous archaeological sites such as the Caves of Pilate, the Roman Cistern, Punta and Forte Papa, the Roman Villas on the promontory of Punta della Madonna, as well as the beautiful Bourbon Port with its promenades among the boutiques for shopping.

WHERE TASTE MEETS TRADITION

Explore the flavors of the Island on an unforgettable journey

Ponza’s cuisine is the result of its geographical location in the heart of the Mediterranean. It has been influenced by various cultures over the centuries, from Greek to Roman civilization, from the Middle Ages to the present day. Ponza’s cuisine is based mainly on seafood, but there is no shortage of meat and vegetable specialties and those with the island’s lentils and chickling peas.

All this can be accompanied by local wines, such as Biancolella and Fiano, which go perfectly with fish dishes.
